Introducing #AcapellaApril, where you suggest songs for me to sing, and I deliver videos! The first episode is "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers. (Suggested by Jon Moga)
This whole series is rooted in my need to grow, independently, as a musician. The biggest delays I experience revolve around my self-doubt that I can't do it alone. Well, I'm making the affirmation that I can.
Since I taught myself how to play guitar, I am not always confident in my ability to accompany myself. I rely a lot on my musical pals to help me with every aspect of my music creation: playing the music, recording, sound engineering.
This month, I'm doing it myself. I'm going to learn to stand on my own.
I'm already so excited by all the suggestions for what to sing this month. I am going to try and do as many covers as I possibly can. As of now, there are 23 eclectic suggestions including some incredibly challenging & unexpected ones like: YMCA, Bohemian Rhapsody, 9 to 5 by Dolly, Rosenrot by Rammstein, the Golden Girls theme song, and Hyperballad by Björk.
I'm not sure if you guys are confident in my abilities, or are just pranksters, but I'm up for the challenge!
Tonight, I am going to record "The Story" by Brandi Carlisle. If you know this song, you'll know how incredibly beautiful and difficult it is to sing. Thanks to Mike Enders (of Accidental Bear) and Andy Heitz for both suggesting it!
